The deadline for doing the RESCert refresher training has been changed in Flanders. In this regard, please refer to Article 8.5.1 of the Energy Decree (§7, from paragraph 10 onwards). The re-certification procedure is not yet enshrined in the legislation of the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region. Refresher training can be done at the earliest two years before the expiry date of the initial certificate and no later than two years after the expiry date of the certificate.
If your certificate has not yet expired, the renewal procedure (link) applies.
The re-certification procedure applies only:
This change does not affect the validity of your initial certificate. Your certificate is not valid for a further two years because of this change.
The refresher training consists of an interactive presentation and a question-and-answer session. The duration of the refresher training is approximately three hours and covers the most important fundamental aspects and new technological developments. The course also provides an update on regional legislation and information on good practice. You get the material for the refresher course in advance and you are expected to go through it beforehand. During the interactive presentation, you may ask all the questions you want after reading through the refresher course.
Refresher training is developed and organised for each category of certificate of competence.
Refresher training courses are organised by Flemish Region in recognised training centres that are already recognised by VEKA to organise basic training courses. You can find the list of accredited centres (for basic and refresher training) here
Former certificate holders who obtained their basic certificate previously under Walloon or Brussels legislation can follow the re-certification procedure by doing refresher training in the Flemish Region.
To date, the Walloon Region and the Brussels-Capital Region have not yet transposed the re-certification procedure into their legislation. It is therefore not possible, for the time being, to complete the re-certification procedure via a refresher course organised at an examination centre recognised by the Walloon Region or the Brussels-Capital Region.
Accordingly, it is not yet possible to have a re-certification at a Walloon or Brussels examination centre, but if you still hold a valid certificate, you can follow the renewal procedure.
If your initial certificate has been out of date for more than two years, you can no longer take part in the refresher training or complete the online re-certification procedure.
In this case, to obtain a new certificate, you must re-sit the examination for the basic training. If you pass, you have a maximum of 12 months after this exam to repeat the initial certification procedure (link) with RESCert. In this case, it is not necessary to do the full basic training again.
